you are my sunshine

All the things we look forward to usually start with someone peaking our interest. Like a movie trailer, prequel, or the aromas of thanksgiving dinner hours before its time to eat.

Today we had 70° weather in the dead of February and what a tease it was. The fact that I could step outside with my toes in flip-flops feeling the warm sun lightly toast my skin ,while still observing small piles of snow, was simply miraculous

My life instantly transformed from frigid shut in, bathrobe on, cabin fever to… doors open, tank top on, spring fever.

I looked out at a yard littered with bikes of all sizes and colors, scooters and side-walk chalk. My son was armed with a shining magnifying glass, prepped and ready to set leaves on fire.

What a sight it was.

As an overworked and underpaid home school mom, I am usually looking for the opportunity to hide away from the kids. Yet today, I found such joy, sitting outside with them, watching them scurry and scatter about with neighbors, like little ants emerging from their tunnels and holes.

It was a brief, partial, and appreciated glimpse into the fulness of spring. A little taste of what is to come.

Scripture tells us this of love; “that we only know in part, but we will one day know in full”, exactly how great it is. I Corinthians 13:12

It also says “taste and see that the lord is good.” Psalm 34:8

Finally, In Matthew 5:14-16 it says,

“You are the light of the world.  A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a  lamp and put it under a  bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

I want to encourage you all to smile, to light up the room, to encourage one another every chance you get.  Just as if you were a 70 degree day in the middle of february.

Time is flying by, the days are getting darker, and YOU may be the only sunshine in the midst of someone’s cold gray winter.

Be mindful of them. Listen carefully, they silently and painfully sing out to you

“You are my sunshine,

My only sunshine,

You make me happy

When clouds are gray,

And You don’t know dear,

How much I love you,

Please don’t take my sunshine away.”
